My name is Buff...Buff...Buff...oh, excuse me. I like the sound of my name. I forget that not everyone else does. (My official registered name is Buffington - what a snooty name!) I joined the family about a year after Rocky did. Rocky and I were big buds, even though sometimes we fought (just like all brothers do). In fact, one time when we got into a big fight, Zepp© went to pick Rocky up and I bit Rocky in the butt. (You've heard the saying "I'm gonna tear you a new ---hole"? Well, that's what I tried to do to Rocky, and succeeded.) I was feeling pretty manly all week until I found out that since Rocky had an infection from the bite, he was going to get to go out of town with Zepp© and Redd. All I got to do was stay home :(
My favorite pastime is chasing balls. I don't care what kind of ball it is - just throw it! Of course, if I see one I will go get it. Zepp© was nice enough to plant some tennis ball plants in the garden one year. Some Italian variety called tomatoes or something like that. I could never figure out why they were so mushy when I picked them off the bush. They'd just fall apart in my mouth. The ones I couldn't reach even changed to a red color. I thought that was a nice touch!
I also like to ride in the back of the pickup when it is moving slowly down a dirt road. I jumped out one time to keep some crazed cows from attacking Zepp© and Redd. You should have seen how wild eyed they were! I also love to ride in the boat. If I can see the bottom, I jump out and try to catch fish. Galveston Bay is shallow enough in places for me to go fishing in. What a trip!
I was lucky enough to be a proud papa - twice! My bitches lived down the street from us - I think they were sisters or something. We had a mènage á trois in the back yard. Talk about "stud" service ... WOO WOO. Anyway, my pups were born within a couple of days of each other. Boy, was Rocky ever jealous! I personally think that's why he left home - he went to find himself a woman!
Zepp©©'s Note: Buff was a stubborn but sweet dog. He could find a tennis ball no matter where it was hidden. Buff aged and it was very hard to put him down. It still seems strange to go out in the back yard, and not have Buff greet us.
